Yellow Mongoose Cynictis penicillata |
- Distribution:
- The areas near the Kalahary and Namib deserts and the dry zones of South Africa.
- Habitat:
- It prefers the semidesertic wide spaces where the grass is short.
- Size:
- Male: 400 to 900 g.
Female: 350 to 500 g.
Shoulder height 10 to 15 cm. Tail lenght from 20 to 25 cm.
- Behaviour:
- Diurnal. It lives lonely or in familiar groups.
Its enemies are: big predatorys, jackals, hyaenas and leopards.
- Food:
- It feeds mostly with insects, larvas, little rodents, frogs and little mammals.
- Reproduction:
- From 2 to 5 offsprings.
- Longevity:
- From 10 to 13 years.
