- Distribution:
- It populates all the sub-saharian Africa excluded the desertic area.
- Habitat:
- Open savannas not largely wooded, hills and mountains till 2.500 m of highness.
The water presence it's very important.
- Size:
- Male.: 60 to 150 Kg.
Female 50 to 75 Kg.
Shoulder height: Male 60 to 90 cm. Female: 50 to 80 cm.
- Behaviour:
- Diurnal animal. At night it sleeps in abandoned burrows which have been enlarged and adapted. It lives in family paties sometime adopting young abandoned.
Its worst enemies are: lions, hayeanas, cheetahs and crocodiles.
- Food:
- Grass, roots, flowers and fruits.
- Reproduction:
- 2 or 5 offsprings after a gestation period of 5,5 months.
- Longevity:
- From 15 to 18 years.
