Vervet Monkey Cercopithecus aethiops |
- Distribution:
- It can be found from the southern Sahara to the whole southern part of the African continent.
- Habitat:
- Savanna, the rivering woodlands, mountains till 4.000 m.
- Size:
- Male: 3,5 to 7,5 Kg.
Female: 2,5 to 5,5 Kg.
Lenght without tail. Male: 45 to 85 cm. Female 40 to 60 cm.
Lenght of the tail: 50 to 115 cm.
- Behaviour:
- Diurnal animal. It live in troops of up to 20 or more, but groups are often smaller (even 5 individuals).
Its natural enemies cheetah, big eagles, pythons and crocodiles.
- Reproduction:
- A single offspring after 7 months of gestation.
- Food:
- Omnivorous, but it is mainly vegetarian (grass, fruits, flowers, leaves, gum and seeds).
- Longevity:
- 20 years.
