- Distribution:
- Waterbuck occurs in eastern and eastern southern Africa.
- Habitat:
- Always associated with water, it prefers areas reed-beeds or tall grass , but it occur also in dense woodlands. During the dry season it never leaves the watercourses or lakes, while in the rain season it's easy to find it in dense woodland.
- Size:
- Male: mass 170 to 260 Kg
Female: mass 150 to 200 Kg
Shoulder height: 100 to 130 cm.
- Behaviour:
- It prefers to move in the morning or in the evening, during the day it mades long halts on the shadow of the woods.
Its worst enemys are crocodiles, lions and hyaenas.
- Food:
- Grass, but also take brows and acquatic plant.
- Reproduction:
- A single calf at any time of year, but especially in summer; the gestation period is about 280 days.
- Longevity:
- To 12 at 18 years.
